today i changed all six tires on my three bikes, man my arms are already sore.

Also changed sprokets and chain on my 450, checked valves on all three, had to shim the 450, and put on new grips on all three.

Each winter i change fork oil, inner and outer, and grease all bearings on the three.

You guys with just one bike are lucky sometimes

if your kids are old enough to ride 250s, aren't they old enough to do their own maintenance?

Thats what i was thinking! If i had kids i would get them to do their own bikes so that they will learn. Watching really dosent help, you gotta do it yourself. JMHO

I would love to have my kids wrenching on thier own bikes, but kids wrenching on bikes cost money. From stripped bolts, pinching tubes, and lost shims, as long as i have to pay the for the stuff i feel safer doing it myself.

There's more value in your teaching of them than there is in bike parts.

torque wrench, supervision and willingness to spend some quality time instead of racing through the project.

Teach me to do it for myself ..

We all had to learn somehow - longer you delay it the more reliant on you they will become ...

And the added incentive is if it all turns to tears ( pinched tube, broken/stripped bolts ) guess who doesn't get to go riding ...

I now have 13 vehicles, some with 4 wheels, one with 6 and some with 2. I also have tires on my generator, pressure washer, wheel barrow, and 4 bicycles.
Your gonna get upset when I tell you the many shops will install your tires for FREE when you buy the tire(which is why you are changing it right). Why would ANYONE change their own tire when its free or only $5? WHY WHY WHY????. Would you change your own car tire if they sold tire levers for cars? Do the fun work and the mods, show the kids how to change a tire once for posterity, and then.....leave the grunt work to the 19 year old at the shop with the tire stand and box of band aids......
