    Wheel Trueing

Do any of you true/tension your own wheels? Do you use a trueing stand or the bike to hold the wheel? Torque wrench spoke tool, which one?

That is something that I understand how to do completely, but I never have been what I call successful at it. Besides, there is a guy at a local bycicle shop here that can true up the worst taco you've ever seen and it's only $10-$15.

You can true it up on the bike, a truing stand or with the axle in the vice with washers.

I use a DRC spoke tool about 4 inches long, with lots of different size tips to suit the different size bikes in the house.

Use gentle hand pressure as my torque wrench.
It is a case, once you have everything true to take them down evenly.

Assuming you know how to do it, it still takes me an hour to get it perfect.

Small wheels of kids bikes take longer. They just do. Don't forget to make sure you have the right offset when you finnish.

I just check for loose spokes.. tap the spokes with the spoke wrench and listen for the note if makes. I try to get a loose spoke close to the rest by tone. And I do it in small steps. That's as far as I take it on my own. If I think it needs truing... off to the wheel guy it goes!
