Is WD-40 a good alternative for lubing the clutch cable. IF not what’s good?

WD-40 is not what you want to use. Use a good cable lube like Dri-Slide, PJ-1 Cable Lube or http://www.crfsonly.com/catalog/product ... ts_id/1295

This tool makes it easier: http://www.crfsonly.com/catalog/product ... cts_id/478

WD-40, LPS1 or 2 will all break done any grease or oil inside a cable therefore doing more damage. (think of them as 'thinners') For the amount that your clutch is used the best idea is just to replace the cable and be done with it.
