    Shroud Bolt Removal

    by MuddinMulisha54 » Tue Jan 09, 2007 1:07 pm

I just recently bought a 2005 CRF450R. I noticed when trying to remove the left shroud plastic that the top shroud bolt will not come out. The hole in the side of the tank is rounded out and the nut just spins. I was wondering if anyone had any tips on how to get that bolt out. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Spin the bolt fast with a drill. pull out on the shroud. it will melt out of the tank.Remove the nut/bushing with a wrench. Epoxy the bushing back in. The tank wont leak. this is the fastest and easiest way. Do a search here this has been covered berfore and you can read where others had great luck with this.

    Hey there
Used this idea in aircraft(lots of plastic inserts). Get the smallest flat screwdriver in under the panel and try and hold the nut, while loosening the bolt. Good luck

Had this happen on my '05. Found the procedure dlpmx describes and it worked like a charm!

Thanks for the tips. I will give them a try this weekend when I get a chance to work on the bike.
