    ATV Advice

    by Pullhigh » Mon Apr 23, 2007 11:41 am

I am looking for a 4 wheeler for my wife.

Most of her time on it will most likley be spent running back and forth from the truck to the kids track, but she says she wants to ride some trails too. She is not at all interested in having to shift any gears or anything, so a full auto is a must. I've been looking at a couple of Polaris models, but wanted to see what people here reccomended.

    Thanks,
    Scott

Do you want sport, utility, or somewhere in between?

    Utility more than likely.

My dad has a Magnum 500. Great machine, but I don't like the auto. I'm preferable to gears. Polaris is the hardest to work on. Fact.

Honda Foreman's have a push button gear setup. Really easy to use and next to actually having a shift lever, pretty reliable setup. Highest quality machine, imo.

Not a Yamahaha fan at all. Can't comment.

Kawi's and Bombardier are the kings of Hp. But if it's for the wife, I wouldn't worry about peak Hp anyway.

I like the bling that comes with Artic Cat's. They look nice, good ground clearance, and are pretty quick. I'd never buy anything green or orange though...

Overall, my vote is for the Honda, but I realize your "no shifting" requirement...may want to show it to her though. No clutch, just push the button...

I'm going to show my ATV idiocy here...

When I looked at the Hondas, I didn;t see a clutch anywhere... Are they semi-auto like the small bikes? On the Electric Shift models, do you just let off the throttle and shift or stay in it and shift or what?

my in-laws have arctic cats and they love them. My wife rides a Kawi 700 auto and it's very easy to handle.

We have 3 of the Foreman ES' in the family. Absolutely bulletproof and very easy to work on. Yes, you can do whatever when shifting. No clutch, just hit the button and go. You can let off the gas, stay in it, whatever...

Finally broke down and bought it yesterday. Honda TRX250TE

Pretty impressive for it's size and the shifting is farily idiot proof.

Yup, we have a new one as well...

Kinda big and yellow, but we got tired of fighting our YFZ and Raptor over boulders, trees, and places where sport quads just shouldn't go.
