    Decompressor Weight Problems

    by Swift-Rider » Sun Dec 13, 2020 4:25 pm

I've been trying to figure out this problem for about a month now. Posting threads about this weird sound that my 2007 crf 250r makes when running. At first I thought it had to do something with the valves (which it kind of does) but now figured out the real culprit that's making all this noise. When reaching TDP, the Exhaust Rocker Arm gets lifted up by the Decompressor Weight and then Exhaust Rocker Arm slips off and slaps the Camshaft making a knock/click type of sound.

In this picture you can see what I'm talking about when I say the Decompressor Weight is lifting up the Exhaust Rocker Arm.

I've done some research about this and I heard that it is normal to hear that sound when trying to start the engine but that it should go away once the engine is started and idling. In my case the sound doesn't go away, you can still hear it while the bike is at idle. How it works is that the turning of the camshaft should fling the weight back therefore turning to the smooth side of the Decompressor Weight and not lift up the Exhaust Rocker Arm.

Here is a link that brings you to a compilation of pictures showing the wear marks and overall condition of the Decompressor Weight. The spring is installed correctly and it turns smoothly. One thing to note is that there is a little bit of play when it is seated. So my question is, why wont my Decompressor Weight operate how it should and make this horrible sound instead? Any help would be greatly appreciated [-oo.

P.S. This is a link to what the sound sounds like if your interested. https://imgur.com/a/dTBSUIc
