    2004 CRF 250 R brake light

    by Jakejhewitt » Thu Aug 06, 2020 10:43 pm

    Good evening, first time posting.
I’ve had XR’s for years, but I bought my sisters 250 R to super moto. The only requirements where I live (to make it street legal) are a mirror and a brake light. Can you wire in a brake light off the rear brake without too much wiring? I found one on here but it said the “250X” not R.

    Thanks for any input,
    Jake

Short answer is - No. Not without the proper stator to control the voltage. Do some research on the internet and you will find the kits to convert to a controlled 12v dc system. They are not cheap but it is certainly doable.
A 250X or 450X would have been an easier for a SM conversion but many have turned R's into SM's. Just takes money.

Another option if this is really true, "The only requirements where I live (to make it street legal) are a mirror and a brake light." would be to add a brake light with hydraulic switch wired independently to a small 12V battery, such as a rechargeable Lipoly or NiCad pack used for R/C applications.

Yes, that could be done fairly easily.

Just don't forget to charge the battery so you don't give the police a reason to pull you over. Easiest thing to do would be to just have a battery tender for it and plug it in when you get home.

If that becomes a pain then look at a charge winding on existing stator if there is a spare pole and wire up with a rectifier/regulator to charge it instead.

Or lash out with a whole new charging system.

    Hi,

Hoping someone can help me out on here...

My CRF 250 X appears not to have a front brake pressure switch installed currently to operate the brake light, but I want to put one on.

I have removed the front headlight today to find a green wire and a yellow wire coming from the wiring loom but not connected to anything, and a white wire from the back of the headlight not connected to anything.

Can anybody tell me what these are? Are the green/yellow for a brake light pressure switch to be connected?

    Thanks

I suggest posting what year, model, and the country the bike was manufactured, USA or UK version so maybe someone can look at a wiring diagram for you. Most pressure switches are run from the rear brake master cylinder if hydraulic and front brakes are from an electrical switch at the front brake lever.
