    Valve seat material

    by wFo250 » Wed Aug 03, 2016 3:07 pm

Honda said they improved the intake valve seat material in '06 and I was wondering did they change only the intake valves seats?
I bought a new head to install and plan to use Ti exhaust valves. Is the seat material different for the intake and exh valve seats on a stock head?stock exh valves being SS it would seem that the seat would need to be different, but I was told it is the same material.

Honda did improve the R heads over the years and this included the valve seat material to increase valve longevity as well as valve stability. However, they were still an powdered iron material which can not provide the thermal transfer necessary to provide the best valve longevity for titanium valves. This is the reason we replace the stock seats with MoldStar-90 material. Both stock exhaust and intake seats are the same material.
