    No ignition 2008 CRF250R

    by pollebm » Wed Sep 02, 2015 7:33 pm

    Hi Guys
I have recently just taken the spark plug coil out of my crf250r 2008 model to attach an hour meter to the wire and after i reassembled it there was no ignition at all.
I then pulled it out again and check the spark and there was no spark at all, although it was running and starting fine the previous day.
any thoughts on what it might be?
    thanks

I am going to guess a ground issue , if the coil does not ground , it wont spark

Or possibly when you pulled on the power wire plug to unhook it , you might have pulled the wire from the connector , even though it is still within the protective rubber cover

well i also tried a fresh spark plug while outside of the engine but still grounded and that seemed to have no spark either, so do you think it might be a wiring problem?

Are you meaning the spark plug was grounded ?? , or you confirmed that the coil was grounded ??

What i am getting at , is the bike had spark and power before you took it apart , then it would mean it was something you did or did not do when reassembling to lose the spark

To install the Hour Meter , what did it require ?? , wrapping the wire around the spark plug wire ?? , or inserting it into the spark plug boot ??

i just rapped the meter wire around the spark plug wire and just pretty much retraced my steps for putting it back togeather

OK , so did you remove the COIL ?? , or just the Spark Plug Boot from the plug and then put it back on ???

If so then i would think that you possibly pulled the wire out of the boot , have you tried screwing the Blue spark plug boot onto the wire to make sure its on completely ?? (clockwise) to make sure its in the wire all the way ??

Are you positive the incoming ignition wire that plugs into the coil itself did not come loose during removal of the tank ?? , you could have pulled the wire off enough while pulling the fuel line out from below , the wire sometimes get hooked on the fuel valve , and it gets pulled off the connector but the rubber is still over it so it looks connected but its not

The issue has to be something you did if it ran right before , check every connection and make sure everything is secure , your overlooking something here , you will most likely find its something really simple ...

If you can't find anything , then i can post from the Service Manual how you can check the ignition system and make sure that nothing has coincidentally gone bad when you put the hour meter wire on , it does happen once in a while that the stator or coil or CDI goes bad right when your doing something , but i still think its a loose connection somewhere

i literally just pulled the Spark Plug Boot from the plug and then put it back on and when i tried starting it there was nothing.
i just had another look and still couldn't find the problem as well as giggling the plugs around in-case they might have just come loose.

The boot should be unscrewed from the wire not pulled , its possible that you stretched the covering and it is no longer able to let the boot prong touch the wire , you need to (unscrew) remove the boot and look at the end of the wire , if you cant see actual wire sticking out or at least right at the end , then you might have to slightly trim the covering so its flush with the wire itself , then screw the boot back on and see if you have spark then ..

You should be able to remove up to a inch of covering if needed to get to the wire , but only take the minimum needed to get the wire to the end of the covering , then screw the cap on till its fairly snug , it should start twisting the wire as you try to turn it when its all the way on
