Hunting/hanging idle problem

I just took my 05 CRF250R out of winter storage and fired it up. It started in 4 kicks and sounded fine warming up. But after I took it for a small ride it has a hanging idle and when it does come down it hunts(idles up and down on its own). I had completely drained the fuel before I put it away so I don't think it is the carb gummed up. Any thoughts?

Hanging idle is typically a symptom of lean pilot. 99% chance that you have some crap lodged in your pilot circuit.

Yep sounds like the carb needs to be gone through as the previous poster said.

Okay I took the carb off and completely cleaned it and the bike is doing the same thing. It was running good last year. Any other ideas? I'm supposed to be leaving for a weekend of riding tomorrow :?

replace the pilot jet with a new one. if you used carb cleaner on the slide replace the floating valve seal. if you removed the slide make sure you installed the floating valve plate in the correct orientation.

Like replace the pilot jet with the next size larger? The odd thing is it ran good with this pilot in it last year and temperatures are the same. Also I found that if I blip the hot start the idle comes down instantly

replace with the same size pilot but get a new one. if it sat with fuel in the carb the jet is likely clogged or partially clogged. they are very difficult to clean to new condition.

I ended up having to put a new 45 pilot in to get the idle to act somewhat normal. The jet in there was a 42

now adjust the fuel screw to dial it in.
