    Flywheel Weight Question

    by Ride_808 » Sat Sep 01, 2012 1:08 pm

I Ride and '08 250r that is completely stoke. I have made the transition from riding track to riding trails and my bike doesnt seem to like it too much. Most of the riding it do is in 1st and 2nd gear in some really tight and technical trails. I have been looking at flywheels for some time now but I dont know what would be the best weight to get. I am thinking going big 15oz. Let me know if anyone has done this conversion to there bike

welcome to CRF's Only! tell us more about what you are experiencing with your bike? is it stalling or not enough power? a flywheel will help reduce stalling at low RPMs but it will spin up slower. also, you may want to consider a Rekluse clutch if your mostly interested in not stalling.

The biggest problem is that the bike is stalling b/c my speed is so slow. I burn threw clutches quick b/c I have to ride it to keep from stalling. Also if I dont get a good run at a hill it is very hard to keep from wheeling. I considered a Rekluse but the price tag is too high for my budge. Mostly I want to know what weight flywheel will work best i dont want to go to heavy but I dont want to be too light.

flywheel weight will help but won't eliminate the possibility of stalling. you should also review your final drive gearing...maybe gear it a bit lower.

I just bought a 2007 250R I did some tight trails yesterday but had to turn back due to too tall gearing in first. Would going down one tooth in the front sprocket help much or should I add some teeth in the rear sprocket. I need to slow down first gear by about 25% Im sure it will effect the other gears but the type of riding I due that should be fine.

I have dropped my gear as low as it can go. I am running a 13 tooth up front and a 52 tooth in the rear. It helped a little but still need more. How much acceleration would I lose if I were to put on a 15oz flywheel vs. a 13oz flywheel? @crfonly sorry for the confusion I am just looking for something that will assist me in having smoother and power at a lower RPM.

I rode 2008 250R enduro. I used 141grams heavier flywheel. Not sure what is it in oz. It makes a lot difference. Engine revs little bit slower. Much better traction and smoother power output. Throttle response is smoother. I liked it a lot and recommend that.

hard to say which you'd prefer. but based on what you have said, go with the 15oz. in your case i believe more is better.
