CRF250R TDC issue? Checking valve clearance...

    by mlenarto199 » Sun Jul 01, 2012 8:23 pm

My 2006 CRF250R died on the track the other day and wouldn't start back up. I believe it is a valve clearance problem since I have got the bike used and haven't checked them myself. I did some research on the internet and tried to learn how to fix valves. When trying to put it into TDC the arrow and dot line up on the right side of the engine, but the two lines one the timing chain wheel are way off. What does this mean? And how do I fix it? I found the clearances to be off on all of the valves.

Is your timing chain fairly slack? Almost sounds like you may have jumped a tooth.

welcome to CRF's Only. here's a how to on checking the valve clearance:

use this to check the clearance. if one or more of your valves are tight you'll need a valve job. shimming tight valves will only get you a few engine hours before they tighten up again.
