Is thiss possible? 2012 crank is claimed to be better. There is some changes in 2012 internals vs. 2011. Camchain is same. Camshaft is same. Blocks are same but cylinder, head and flywheel is different. What is different in 2012 flywheel? Weight or something in triggering?
So does anyone know will straight swap be possible and if not what is need to be done other? Change flywheel to 2012?

Best regards,

Timo

it's possible. no way to know for sure without either trying it or comparing them (measuring) side by side.

i know aftermarket crank manufacturers have not yet included the 2012 in the model year range for fitment. that's not conclusive but typically they are anxious to include the new models if they are compatible.

Ok I´m going to search this thing. I know that primary gear is same in 2011 and 2012 so there would be no problems. I bet someone else has been thinking this mod for sure. Just to get the info is another story :)

they should not have sent you the '12 crank if you ordered a '11 crank. the '12 is not the same part number and they shouldn't have swapped it on you. that was your dealer not honda.

a honda dealer won't know unless they did the work to measure it or install it to verify they are the same. honda the manufacturer doesn't tell us or dealers what they changed and what the implications are of those changes.

2012 model crank fits in 2011. There is some difference in flywheel but not sure what? I guess it´s different weight only because electrics are same. 2011 flywheel fits in 2012 crank anyway. Crank is something like 15grams lighter than 2011.
Engine is running nicely but my forks and shock is apart so I can´t yet go testing it and report more. Next week I know more!

Yeah I bet if Honda have thousands of 2011 cranks they want to sell them and not to make them metall junk.
In Finland we have some problems with cranks because it´s cold in winter and engines tend to run cold even closed radiators. Fuel leans engine oil and then no lubrication. Engine oils must to be changed a lot to make them last. But it´s feature in injection engine.
