    Should I do it myself?

    by alanpolhoatzin » Mon Dec 19, 2011 2:51 pm

    Hello,

I want to repair my 04 CRF250R. Should I do it myself using a manual? (I have almost no experience) Or should I hire a professional, my goal is saving money.

I live in Mexico so professionals are not honest and do not have proper education and knowledge regarding motocross bikes.

Is it very hard repairing the bike myself (a big repair)?

Which manual do you recommend me to buy?

    Thanks!!!

definitely do it yourself. the Honda manual and the Clymer are excellent. not sure what repair you need to do but we also have how-to articles and many here with great knowledge who can help you if you have questions.

    good luck!

Actually I don´t know... my bike worked the first days always below the 4 gear. But yesterday I decided to accelerate and get to 5 gear. That is when it happened, changing from 4 to 5 gear a very loud sharp noise, like two metals scratching. I stopped the bike immediately and the kickstart pedal is jammed, it cannot be moved at all.

I don´t know what is the problem...

I am mad because I bought this bike a week ago...

oh yes...i remember seeing your post. it is possible to do this work yourself IF, IF you are able to follow a service manual, IF you are detailed in your approach, IF you have reasonably mechanically inclined.

read through this How-To on a crank rebuild. yours will be very similar.

So you gonna need some tool

    A flywheel remover
Basket holder if you don't have a impact gun
Some measuring tool for inspect like feeler gauge, micrometer, digital caliper.
