First off thanks Ken and all, I read often.
I am a long time street/super-sport rider that recently moved uber rural into Appalachia Kentucky and picked up my first off roader, a 2005 250r...aaaaand it's awesome! But I am going to be due for a sprocket and chain change soon and am looking for some insight into sprocket and chain selection.
I'm looking for more torque than top end as I do a lot of climbing and trail riding. I'm also looking for sprocket and chain durability and longevity. Should I keep stock gearing or adjust teeth number? What brands and set up and chain type should I go with?
Thanks for all the replies in advance.
welcome to CRF's Only! for durability in the chain go with DID VT2 chain since you are doing off-road riding. very durable and is a t-ring chain. for sprockets you have several choices. the Dirt Tricks, Ironman are the most durable. the Supersprox and Renthal Twinwall are durable and lighter and would be good choices as well over the standard aluminum sprockets.
if you are looking for more torque the best bang for your buck is to swap cams. the stock cam is more of a mid to top end cam. the hot cams stage 1 cam is a low to mid range cam. it will give you the grunt you are looking for on the trail and hill climbs. we stock these products if you need more information about them.
again, welcome.
