I personally like to short shift on the trails. If I am on a track, I wind it out more.

as in not giving that much throttle before switching gears? right?

so you ride like 2/4 throttle on each gear?

I usually go about 19/32 on each gear...

That's it Micah. While I confess I don't pay that much attention to how much I have moved the throttle, I wouldn't guess that it is normally over 1/2 throttle on most trail situations, with the exception of hills perhaps.I actually just shift by "feel". After you get to know your bike, you seem to know what gear and how much throttle to apply for a given situation.
