Hey guys, I just recently picked up a brand new 06 CRF250R. It's my very first bike. I've been out on it four times so far. I'm having a blast with it.

Today, I took her out to Gorman and got a nasty fall. When the bike fell, the throttle fell into sand. Now I have sand in the throttle. When I open the throttle all the way, it gets stuck. I couldn't figure out how to get all the sand out.

My question is how do I disassemble the throttle so that I can get the sand out. I looked at my manual couldn't find anything on it. Thanks in advance.

It's a big pain in the rear end!!. Remove the two bolts that clamp the throttle to your handle bars and separate the assembly. There is a white piece inside that the cables run on that might pop out, or stick to one side. Pull the cables out from the throttle tube. Clean/grease as needed. Good luck putting back together.

Don't tighten the clamp bolts on the throttle too tight! Don't tighten the clamp bolts on the throttle too tight! Don't tighten the clamp bolts on the throttle too tight! There is a little heli coil like thing in it that is supposed to be glued to the housing, but when I was tightening mine, that broke and so the bolt would stay tight. It fell out when I crashed so now I think I have to buy a new lower throttle housing...

Hey thanks a lot guys, I took it apart, it wasn't as technical as thought it to be. I cleaned it and greased the ends of the cable. I don't have cable lube so i used grease on the cable. Not the entire cable, only what is exposed. Would that be an issue? And as far as tightening the throttle clamp. I did it really tight. I'm going to loosen it up as soon as I finish typing this. Thanks again.

Never put grease in the throttle barrel, actuators, or cables. It won't hurt it directly, but will attract dust/dirt like a magnet. Use silicone spray or equivalent cable lube. Depending on your conditions, you may want to just leave it clean and call it a day.
