Clutch won't release when bike is not running

    by jutah07s » Tue Oct 30, 2007 9:44 pm

The other morning I went to load my bike. It was in 1st gear so I pulled the clutch in, but it did not free the back wheel. I put it in neutral and started it, let it warm up and it worked perfectly. I also noticed that it was very hard to start in gear, actually it never did start after 2-3 kicks, but after I shifted it into neutral it started on the first kick....any ideas??

I thought not starting in gear was a four stroke thing. Mine never starts easy in gear.

Haha, I feel like the odd-one-out now because my bike almost always will start in gear. :D :D

This probably isnt the problem, but you could check clutch plates and friction plates. Also, look along the length of the clutch cable for kinks.

It really wasn't all that cold, probably about 55 degrees. I have never had a 4 stroke before so maybe it is a 4 stroke thing, I just think it is odd that it won't release when it is not running. There aren't any kinks in the cable, when you pull the clutch in you can tell that it pulls the little arm above the transmission as far as it can pull it. (Can you tell I don't know too much about the mechanics side of motorcycles?) Thanks for the input everyone, it is encouraging that no one has said that it sounds like a major problem though.

Haha, its a common mistake by people new to the 4-Stroke world to say a "Honda CRF250F".

Anyway, this might actually not be the problem, but try checking clutch and friction plates.
