The reason i ask is that my buddy rides a 1994 cr250 and he swears that it will not make a 16 mile loop before it runs out of gas

Depends on the what type of loop.
Single track or std ORV trail; your mark is about 35-40 miles.
Wide open Fire roads and/or snowmobile trails; your mark is about 30-35 miles.

Tell your buddy he is a clown.

Thanks for the reply,,, it was a about 18 miles round trip through single track and sandy washes. We convinced him to try it and he made it no problem. He felt like a moron.

    thanks again

i ride a 19.2 mile loop of thick sand for the first 3.4 miles to 7 miles of tights to the rest mud, wash, rooty & more sand on my 450R on half a tank wide open. my friends 450 is not jetted or built like mine and he makes it on a little less fuel and james's cr 500 makes it on a little less then a half on a 3 gallon tank. we ride hard and fuel has never been a problem.
