i have a 06 that im racing in the vet class,the bike runs great, pulls great holeshots . my question is i,ve been kickin around the idea of a gear change .go one more tooth in the rear would this help me keep the rpms up in the corners? i know it means more shifting but i think being in 3rd and 4th is better than 2nd and 3rd will i loose much of the holeshot??

I have thought about this my self but droping teeth on the back. But honda have got it right the first time. why change it

I ride a fairly tight track and I bumped my rear sproket up 2 teeth to a 53 and I love it. Yes there is two sections where I get to 5th but getting out of the corners is a lot better.

Gearing is a feeling type of thing. Consider what tracks you ride, how tight the corners are any long straights?
You say you get good holeshots and it feels good don't change it. I looks to me you are eager to mod your bike. Mods are good some make your bike preform better and most make it look different. Your going to need your money for gas, oil, and repairs. so spend your money wisely. Look through the forums for good mods it has been discussed alot

I just put a 52 on my 05R but have not ridden it yet (snow). I read that it will help fill in some of that annoying gap between 2nd and 3rd gears. I'm also hoping it will allow me to better launch out of bowl turns in 3rd without using so much clutch. I just waited until my chain and sprockets were worn out before making any gearing changes.

I have tried the 52 tooth sprocket twice now. On both occiasions I have changed it back after the race.

To be honest I cant tell the difference in the gap betwean 2nd and 3rd.

I find with the standard 51 sprocket it corners better as the engine lugs more and can torque round the corner, giving more control.

Give it a try and see what you think.

Also I had to shorten the chain 1 link and also extend the wheelbase to get the right chain tension.

ya i do a lot of drag racing, helpin my hole shots.. and i have a 14, 53 and it works real great, pulls really nice.

I love the way that my bike is geared. Sometimes i wish that 5th was a little taller and first was lower. It'd be nice to have the topend on the long fast sictions of desert, but it would be nice to not feather the clutch so much when i'm in super tight single track.

If you on the bulky side like me gear up, you won't be disappointed. If you do go up, go with the ironman sprockets. they're lazer cut stainless steel. Very light and last forever ! Be sure to go all new when you do, even a chain.
