    Broken Float Bowl Drain Tube

    by MA$TER_E » Mon Jul 06, 2015 7:43 am

So I'm helping a friend get his crf dialed in. It's been a pain to start for him so we started with the valves. All the valves were in spec so we pulled the carb to clean it up. OMG there's a lot of corrosion. I've never seen one so built up with junk. In the process of putting the carb in the ultrasonic tank I noticed the drain tube was wobbly. It was broken. What can we do about this? I don't think replacing it would be very hard but finding it may be really difficult. What's your thought guys?

Get a new float bowl for $50, reattach the overflow tube with JB weld, or leave the tube off and seal the hole with JB weld. I would advise against leaving it off, and it may leak if you don't reattach it carefully. I myself would just fork out the $50 for a new bowl. Perhaps you could find a used one for cheaper (e.g. from someone that replaced theirs with an R&D Power Bowl).

Well , its pretty much in need of replacement , and you can thank Ethanol for this little expenditure , since Honda does not sell the part separately , i would look on EBay if he does not want to spend the money on a new one , though new they are not that expensive , i got one for one of my bikes here (at CRF'sOnly) , and it was about $56.00 , so its not a major expense , if he got a aftermarket bowl , they can get spendy , so a OEM bowl from either , here , your local dealer , or EBay , would all be good ;)

Excellent, thanks guys. I was afraid we'd have to replace the bowl. We're both engineers during the day but by night we're beer drinking know it alls and think we might be able to fix it. I'll share if we're actually able to but an OE replacement would be the safest bet. Plus his is an 06 X and has a bowl drain on it. The one you shut the fuel off then open the little screw and let the fuel out. My 05 X doesn't have that. Boy that'd be nice.

There are plenty of FCR carbs that are OEM equipment that might not be Honda, but the bowl may be sold separately. Look at online parts diagram for Kawi, Yamaha, etc.

Yep , i put a 06 450X bowl on my 02 450R (i too have a 06 450X) , its great to have that drain so when you remove the bottom plug to change or clean a jet , its not as messy

and as leardriver said (he is the resident carb expert here) , any FCR bowl from another brand including KTM as far as i know , will swap , so that should make your search easier , just look for one with the screw , you can get it here (this is where i got mine) from Ken , it helps support this site when you buy from him ... ***this is the only forum i hang out at anymore , lots of good people and lots of good info***

    #5 on the list
