CRF230L Australian Model Rejetting

Hi,
I have a 2008 crf230L. I'm looking at putting on an aftermarket exhaust, taking the cover off the air filter and rejetting the carby.
I have found the dynojet kit for this, but I am in Australia and the importer tells me that the fuel specs for the Australian model of the 2008 crf230L are different to the US model, and it won't work so well. My questions are:
1. I can't find anything on the web that spec's the Australian model v the US model?
2. Assuming the Carby is the same (30mm) for both US and Australia, the needles and jets willfit anyway, and then it will just be a matter of tuning. Is this correct ?
3. Is there anyone from Australia on this forum that has done this ? If so, what jets did they use.
Thanks to anyone that can help.
Marty

Marty,
There should be some numbers on the carby body, if you can let us know what they are might be able to help.
A photo of carb may be handy too.

Thanks Aussiecrf230,
I'll have a look at the number and take a photo of the carb when I get home tonight and post it.
Cheers.

Probably two sets of numbers.
Do you have a shop manual?

I have the owners manual, but not the shop manual.
I had a look at the carby without taking anything off, and can't see any numbers. I'll need to take off the surrounding stuff to get in behind and have a look all round.
Job for the weelend.
Thanks

OK.
I have noticed the number 19 in a hex cavitiy on the carby. Is this the number you mean?, or are you talking about a longer serial number? I also noticed the letters VE on the back of the Carby. I took the seat of and undid the back of the Tank and lifted it up a little to see the back. I still cannot see the whole carby without stripping it more.
I don't have the service manual, only the owners manual.
Thanks......Martin

Martin,
Was hoping you would find something like VE3AH A.
Sounds like you found part of it though.
I presume it is a CVK carby. I have read that the idle jet is a 35 with a 118 main. Can't confirm if that is worldwide production but would guess it would be.
Suggest you google Keihin CVK or even just CV and check the diagrams are the same as your carby. There is a Keihin dealer in South Australia that should be able to supply jets. Maybe the kit you mentioned would work. You would be looking for at least a 40 idle maybe a 45. The idle mixture screw is different from the CRF230F too, but will have the same D head that Honda loves. Check out what jets come in the kit. They do have differences with fuels in US but you are only looking at the hole size compared to what you have. You can PM me if you like.

Hi Aussiecrf230,
The number you mention is on the back of the carby. By removing the shrouds loosening the bottom of the fuel tank I could only see the VE. I need to take it out or remove other stuff to be sure. I have attached a photo of the Carby.
Thanks for your help, I'll google the info provided.
Cheers...M

If you can twist around enough and take the float bowl of carefully, you will find the main and idle jets.
They will be stamped with the size.

Hi Ray,
Thanks for your help....four years later finally got the mods done ....dynajet stage 2 on the carb, XR's only pipe and exhaust, lid off the air filter box...nicely uncorked.
Cheers

Hi Marty,
How does it go now it is uncorked?
What jets did you end up installing and what is your fuel screw set too?
That sort of info can help others.

Hi Ray,
I've attached the Dynojet instructions used. The main jet is a DJ128 and the fuel screw turned back 2.5 turns.
The installation was as per stage two in the instructions attached. I have no idea how this relates to standard jets as I assume the 'dj' is proprietory.
Haven't been out bush yet, just a test ride up a the street at my mates place...didn't get out of 3rd but I still noticed a big difference.
Cheers
Marty
