    05 450R w/ Full ProCircuit

    Hi all,

I recently acquired a 2005 CRF450R that has led a tough life. Previous owner only rode it in the woods. I'm in the process of bringing the bike back to life. It has a full ProCircuit R-series pipe, but I'm not sure of the current jetting. Bike seems to be running lean. Some pops and cracks at idle. Where would be a good starting point to jet this beast at around 1900ft?

Also, the idle seems sticky. It takes the bike a while to get back down to idle, and it seems like it doesn't want to go back to the same idle every time. It feels like I'm constantly adjusting the idle speed to get the bike to idle. Any ideas what would cause this?

    Thank you.

welcome to CRF's Only! congrats on your new bike. there's a jetting database in the CRF450R section you can refer to for what others are using and having success with. you'll find some use the stock needle and others use the JD Jetting kit we offer.

if the bike has been sitting for some time with fuel in the carb the first order of business is to make sure the jets are not clogged. also, check the accelerator pump as the diaphragm is known to break down over time. lastly, the floating valve seal is another area that can be affect idle and throttle response. the "hanging idle" you are referring can be a lean pilot circuit and/or a floating valve seal/plate issue. any intake boot leaks can also cause this.

for better off-idle acceleration perform the AP mod. if you end up getting the JD Jetting kit this mod is included.

    again, welcome!

Thank you for the quick reply! I'll start looking into these areas. Thanks!

if you remove the slide to inspect the floating valve seal you should have a replacement seal ready. the seal and the plate must be oriented correctly or you'll have more of the same issues with the idle and overall carb performance.
