185 main seems a bit large

    by Mark Mitchell 32 » Tue May 31, 2011 11:07 am

Hey guys. Again, Ive got the bike back up and running and its running a little hot. I pulled out the main and its a 185! Im close to sea level, 12.5:1 piston, Yoshi exhaust, AP mod, Jd red needle, although I havent looked at the position but Im sure its right. Im wondering what main I should use. Ive got from 170 to 185 already.

for a start the 170 must be a better choice you sure its not a 165 this would be normal unless you were running a cam or in adverse weather conditions
    over 40 still ridin hard

Yes, I looked at the needle and it was 6th from the top. I have the stock cam, and Im pretty sure it was 185. Ive tried some smaller mains and different clip positions, but I couldnt get it to start. So today Im going to put it back how it was, and hopefully get it to start.

is it the red or blue needle? red is high altitude and blue is low altitude. 6th is the right clip position for most set ups and 185 is recommended by JD for altitudes of sea level to 4000 feet. make sure you have the red need in if you are the sixth clip.

your setup is correct if you are at that altitude. fuel screw start at 2 and adjust from there.
