    hanging idle

    by NCLR1 » Thu Mar 03, 2011 8:13 am

I cleaned and replaced all orings/gaskets in the carb on my 450. It had moderate fuel gelling. Now it hangs on to the rev on the down side. It doesn't bog at all, but it just takes a long time to come down. What can I do to fix this? I replaced the pilot with a 45. I have the fuel screw at 1 1/2 turns out. All other jetting is stock.

Everytime I've encountered a hanging idle it was related to air entering the intake system somewhere it wasn't supposed to.

Double check your carb boots at the airbox and carb.

as ACDNate mentioned check the boot on the motor side to make sure it's seated correctly. also, take your fuel screw to 2 turns out and see if that helps. if you removed the slide make sure you have the floating valve plate correctly oriented. if it's upside down it will exhibit this behavior. also, make sure you know your pilot jet is pristine. the hole is very small and any restriction in the slightest is a big deal.
