    CRF230F Jetting - New guy

    Hey guys,
I am new to the forum, and am sure the stock answer here is going to be "search the forums". But, having no clue what to do yet, I'm going to poke the fire a bit here. I'm the proud owner of a 2000 XR400 (my baby), and a new 2003 CRF230F with less than 30 hrs on it. I'm looking for more power and to solve this evident problem that is apparent in the cold. I have heard that rejetting it, removing the baffel, and uncorking the air box are three key elements to stepping up power and solving my problem. If you would be so kind, give me a few tid-bits of advice or any other hints, I'd be extremely grateful.

    As always,
    Keep the rubber side down!

I don't do a lot with the 230f, but an engine is an engine. First of all, you're right, the air box is pretty corked up, so that's a good start. Second, I would look into an aftermarket exhaust. They're fairly inexpensive and is a great mod for those types of engines. Removing the baffle is an annoying, loud, lose your bottom end mod that to me is counterproductive. When it comes to jetting, there's a few key components you'll need to look at. First of all, understanding how the carb works and how the jetting can effect each part of the throttle opening. What symptoms are you encountering that makes you want to lean towards jetting? Is the bike hard to start when it's cold outside but fires right up when it warm? Give us some real life examples and we'll all do our best to help you out!
