I think my bike should have more snap, or accelerate harder from 1/4 to 3/4 throttle when it has anything but a straight pipe on it. It doesn't bog and pulls solid, but it just wont accelerate quickly.
If I run a my friends Yoshamira without the insert it runs like a raped ape. With the stock X muffler with a drilled out insert its almost not ride-able.
I put a FMF Q4 on it, it runs OK but I think I lost some power from running the X muffler with no insert.
When I rode my Friends R this weekend with a Q4 muffler on it the throttle seems much more responsive.
As I've been experimenting with pipes, I think my problem is that my system isn't balanced between intake and exhaust. And now that I rode an R with the same pipe I believe this more.
I made a few modifications that brought this on.
06 R head
Hot Cam Stage one
Cut pink wire
Drilled several holes in the sides of the airbox
Twin Air filter
I added a FMF Q4 this past weekend.
Three other mods I've had for a long time is 155 main, AP mod and Honda Air box mod.
I haven't checked the spark plug yet. That's the project for tomorrow night.
I am running a 42 pilot, about 2 turns out on the fuel screw, 155 main and stock needle on the 4th clip. Turning the fuel screw out reduces throttle response. So I think I am running rich.
I see a lot of people are running 165 mains, but I think mine is running rich with my 155 set up!
With my set up of the R head and the X carb is the velocity through the smaller carb of the X drawing more fuel, so unless I have a free flowing exhaust I am running to rich and loosing power? Or does the Twin Air have more restriction and causing it to draw more fuel?
Wondering if anyone has any experience with this type of set up and have any setting suggestions. Its kind of frustrating knowing its potential, but haven't figured out the key to unlock it while keeping the noise down so my neighbors don't kick me out!!
Hope somebody has ideas. It takes along time to experiment from one ride to the next.
