I just performed some carb work on my completely stock 2007 CRF250X because it would stall when I opened the throttle. I probably only needed to clear the jets, but I removed the entire carburetor and cleaned it out just to be sure there wasn’t more of a blockage elsewhere. When I got it all back together, is starts, idles (once it is warmed up) and responds to the throttle. However, I may not have the fuel mixture exactly has it was before the carb work. My questions are:
1) Is there a tool to adjust the fuel mixture screw without having to turn the carb at an angle?
2) Are adjustments made in quarter turn increments?
3) Does anybody know how far out to back the screw for factory (stock) settings?
4) Does the bike have to be turned off to make these adjustments to the fuel screw?
5) Does an aftermarket fuel mixture screw make any difference in performance?
Before I took the carb apart, the fuel screw was backed out between 2-1/2 to 2-3/4 turns, not lined up in quarter increments.
The bike sounds a little off when riding it, not quite at the point where it back fires, but doesn’t seem to run smoothly. Also, if I gas it to bring the front tire over obstacles, it bogs down briefly before the power kicks in.
I don’t think this is an issue with the stock jets that are installed as I was very careful when cleaning out the blockage to ensure that I didn’t change the orifice size.
Any ideas if I’m running too lean or rich? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
