    Sweet!

    by dsrpilot » Mon Apr 12, 2010 8:43 pm

    Just jetted my 230f tonight.

For the first time since I bought it (used) I was able to hit the electric start while it was cold and walk away and it kept running!! No revving the engine, stalling out, no messing with the idle speed, nutin... Put it on half choke, hit the button and walked away. 5 minutes later took it off 1/2 choke and it was ready to go...

Didn't get a chance to ride it yet, but I also took out the snorkel to the airbox and put 2 additional holes in the baffle, so I'm looking forward to see what it will do this weekend!

But the best news is my daughter rode this past weekend and LIKED it!! I may not have to sell the 80 after all!

Got to ride my bike this past weekend finally. The difference was substantial. Better throttle response, more power, no loss of torque, and better top end. For the small investment in money and time it made a huge difference.

I also had read a thread on thumpertalk about adding some preload to the suspension by putting stainless steel washers in the fork tubes. That made a big difference in the handling as well.

It really felt as if I had a new bike and I can't wait for the coming weekend to get on it again!!!

Hi, and I thought it was only my wifes CRF230f that had those same problems you mentioned. I am glad to hear you solved the idle and start dilemma. May I ask you what size jet(s) you installed and was there any other things done other than what you had already mentioned above. I am anxious to get her bike to start and warm up better than it does now. I am tired of adjusting the idle all the time so it will warm up without stalling. Thanks,
    Rich

Just the standard power-up kit from CRFsOnly.

    Power Up Needle
    #132 Main Jet
    #135 Main Jet
    #45 Pilot Jet

I put in the #132 main and the fuel screw. Also drilled 4 holes in the baffle, and removed the plastic part at the top of the airbox.

Made a huge difference in the way the bike runs when it's cold but more so when you're riding it hard...
