No special needle tool, any alternatives?

    by aleefers » Fri Jan 08, 2010 5:33 pm

I just bought my 250X used and the special needle tool did not come with it. It looks like it is going to take a couple weeks to get one. Has anyone made there own or used something else in a pinch?

You can use a small piece of vacuum hose or needle nose pliers.

I had the same issue, what I did was take off the main jet and used another needle put it in upside down from the bottom and pushed it right out, hold the throttle wide open while doing this, keeps the carb assembly all the way up in the carb. :D

So the needle just pulls/pushes straight out and the new one drops in? Is there anything I need to be cautious about damaging by not using the tool?

All you need to do is take the top cap off, using an allen wrench first. Then the allen wrench to remove the cover on the needle, then you can push it out.

Full throttle and a pair of tweezers was by far the easiest.
