    230 rejet

    by lovestoride » Wed Jun 24, 2009 8:05 pm

I just rejetted my 09 crf230 with a 132 main jet, 45 pilot, and new needle. I took off the snorkle from the air box and have been told that I should remove the baffle from the exhaust too. What I'm wondering is: will removing the baffle have any negative effect on the valves? I've heard that removing the baffle can heat up the valves and cause damage. Is this true?
Also, will removing the baffle mean that the bike is no longer green sticker/ legal??
What are the pros and cons of removing the baffle?

You shouldn't remove the baffle unless you re-jet. Since you've already done that ...you are good to go...

Pros - breathes better and you get a performance increase.

    Cons - louder.

Spark arrestor assembly stays in the muffler even with the baffle pulled. So you should be good on the green sticker. They are fairly quiet at a steady rpm. Yank it and see if you like it.

Can't you remove the muffler baffle...

I read a tutorial that said if you remove the baffle and the restricted air intake ('06 & up), you must richen your mixture, but re-jetting was not necessary.

BTW, thanks again for the tip on the replacement "D bit", that is going to be very helpful.

I just bought a brand new '08 230 and I am trying to do a few little and inexpensive things to give it more performance. First thing on my list was making it breath better. Not so sure I even want to get into re-jetting it yet, any thoughts? :D
