132 main jet. 4th clip on the needle.

Cut at least the top of the airbox off.

Most owners just pull the "snorkle" and rubber gasket from the top. No cutting.

If I have a never ridden '08 230, I want remove the intake snorkel and muffler baffle, then install a power up kit. Can I just replace the main jet and leave the needle alone? Or do I have to replace everything that is sent in the kit?

i put in all the parts they gave me in the kit and it runs perfect and is amazingly better. i dont see any reason not to. once you have the carb all opened up the other parts only take a minute to switch out.

Good thinking. You do get a little more power, but the larger benefit is cooler running, quicker starting and smooth top to bottom throttle response. Easier to ride, not more challenging.
It happens quite a bit where folks will seek help, we or the manufacturer will tell them all that's required then the new owner resists doing all of the job for some reason. Then they don't get all the benefits.
Glad you like it, it's quite a difference.
Now you should install a 14 tooth countershaft sprocket.
You'll have a first gear actually good for something (it sure isn't stock), you'll lose no climbing ability and it will pick up appx 10 mph top end speed.
Many will say they don't need that. Most will find eventually they do. Doug

    It is.
230 riders who ride primarily wide open spaces even do well with a 15. If you ride trails/woods,etc. that can get tight a 14 will work super.Doug

Most any brand of countershaft sprocket is fine. They are steel and there's not the huge difference in quality that there is in rear sprockets.
I think that we have one here on crfsonly, Sprocket Specialists has one for sure. Doug
