450 stalls easily when ridden at first...4 stroke newbie

    by 07crf450 » Mon May 11, 2009 5:47 pm

    Guys,

Just switched over to a 450F from a 2stroke 250. The bike I bought is solid with the exception of the stalling issues. I put on a quick shot accelerator a couple of weeks ago. I adjusted the carb a tab richer as the instructions say to.

Rode it on saturday and it still stalls easliy when I first start riding. After flogging it most of the day it seemed like it got better or I got used to it and compensated with the clutch to keep from stalling.

Carb is stock (stock exhaust) I think with the exception of the QS2. I haven't looked at the jets yet to see whats in there because it runs good except for the stalling.

It has good power and does not pop on deceleration. I did notice that after riding for awhile when in neutral the motor was idiling too fast. I turned down the idle and did not notice any effect on the stalling.

It has a new ready filter in it with about 5 hours on it and all fluids are fresh.

Any thoughts on what's up? I'm used to a 2stroke being able to dump the clutch and rarely stalling one. That may be some of the problem, but something is off.

    Sorry for the Book!!!

PS if your in southern indiana.....email me, always looking for people to ride with!

    Thanks

    Jon

First off go buy a new filter. If you want to run the cheap ready filters, replace every ride.

Second, take of that cover. Causing more problems than it fixes.

Third find out what jets are in the carb including the leak jet. Clean out all jets, 1 way valves in the carb and bowl and all the jet passages. Then reinstall the carb. YOu should get an aftermarket fuel screw so it makes it easy to adjust on the fly.

Once you have it all back together, try adjusting the fuel screw some. once you do that, report back if you still have problems with the jets, needle, needle clip position and altitude.
