    Decel Popping Clarification

    by jgixer » Fri May 01, 2009 5:37 pm

I've got an '05 250R. It had no popping with stock configuration. After adding a Pro Circuit pipe and JD jet kit, I've got popping during deceleration. I just wanted to clarify that by deceleration I mean engine breaking. It does not pop when the clutch is pulled in and the throttle is shut down. The fuel screw has been adjusted in small increments throughout the usual 1 1/4- 2 1/4 turns with no luck. The plug electrode is brown, with some black around the top of the threads. Any suggestions?

Did you use a new copper crush gasket when installing the exhaust? Could be an air leak.

No I did not. Copper, huh? I left it in place thinking it was that typical high temp, cork-looking gasket material. I need to wrap the exhaust (no heat shield with this system) so I'll install a new gasket as well. Speaking of... have you heard about exhaust wrap trapping moisture and cracking headers, specifically Ti headers? Thanks.

So your engine is taking a 15 minute break while it decelerates?

    BRAKE -- spelling peoples!

Put in a new exhaust gasket. If that does not help, go up 1 on the pilot.
