    Need Help with Bogging please!!

    by Styx450R » Sat May 10, 2008 4:58 pm

I am taking my bike apart right now, so any quick help would be awesome.

I have a CRF450R. I recently upgraded to a Full Jardine exhaust and JD jetting kit.

The instructions said red needle, 6th clip position, with a 180 Main. My fuel screw is 1 3/4 out as instructed. I ride in and around San Diego. No more than 600 ft above sea level.

I checked my plug after my last ride and it is golden brown, however I feel like it is bogging when I give it throttle. It doesn't feel crisp. An example.

Today, I crashed on my right side. Something happened and the bike got really, really crisp. It was exactly the way it should feel, then it went back to how it is now, almost like the power is being held back. I am not sure what happened but something doesn't feel right, I am pulling the plug again. Please help! I am going back to the track tomorrow to try any changes I make today.

    Thank you in advance!!

Try adjusting the fuel screw. Start it up and twist the throttle while making small adjustments to the screw. Leave it where the rpms climb the fastest.

You also might try the 5th clip on the needle.

I moved needle to 5th clip position and now it is backfiring.

I moved it back to 6th clip and closed the fuel screw one qtr turn. It is now 1 1/4 open. I will test it at the track tomorrow and let you know how it goes.

I bought a twin air filter kit and a racing spark plug and I am still getting some bog, is it possible I need to move up from a 42 pilot to a 45?

The reason I ask is recently I purchased a JD jetting kit for my wifes CRF150R and noticed she had a 42 pilot in the kit (an upgrade from the 38).

    Thank you.

Could somebody tell me where is the fuel screw? Or is it the golden screw next to the float drain bolt(8mm) under the carburetor??

And could this screw adjustments cause bogging when twisting throttle fast???

    Thankyou! 8)

the fuel screw is on the underside of the carb at the front of it (cylinder side)

Your bog issue is most likely an issue with the AP (accelerator pump). Did you modify the circuit with the O ring in the kit? Have you cleaned out the leak jet and 1 way valves in the carb body and float bowl? Have you inspected the AP diagphram?
