    250 idle help

    by 250rnit » Mon Mar 10, 2008 7:14 pm

im new to the 4 stroke crowd so i dont know alot about them yet. last year i purchased a new 07 250r. last week i took it in to have them put an aftermarket fuel screw in and tune the bog out of the carb. when i got it back and started it up the bog was gone but it was idleing high and then low and just not consistent. after about 3 of 4 minutes i noticed the head pipe was glowing hot. which it never did before. is that because its way too lean. do i neet to take it back and have them make it right. my bike doesnt even have 10 hours on it yet.

also i was reading on here that the aftermarket fuel screws can fall out. i have and msr one. should i silicone it also.

i appreciate any help i can get.
    thanks

The high-low idle is indicative of a lean condition, try opening your fuel screw 1/4 to 1/2 turn and see if that fixes it. If you left your bike sitting and idling for 3-4 minutes, you are asking for trouble. These machines are not intended to do that. 30 seconds to a minute is about all they should sit still. They will definitely overheat otherwise.

the reason i let it run is because in my manual it says to let it idle for 3 minutes and cool for 3 minutes before an oil change. so i should only let it idle a minute tops??
    thanks for the help.
