I just jetted my 2006 CRF450X using the JD Jet Kit. When I pulled the stock needle from the bike and compared it to the red needle in the kit, they are exactly the same except for the position of the clip. The dimensions are exactly the same on both needles.

It seems to me if you just moved the clip on the stock needle down two spots then you would have the needle that comes in the kit.

Am I wrong? What is the difference between them?

The degree of the taper is different.
