Just installed a MSR pilot screw, cleaned the air filter. Now the bike is hard to start. Got it running and warmed up, but no change in idle when adjusting the screw, even all the way closed. What did I screw up?

if the fuel screw doesn't have any affect on the idle then you likey need to change your pilot jet by going larger.

Even if it was running rich before I changed the pilot screw. Seems backwards for some reason.

that i didn't know...i shouldn't have assumed it was a lean condition you were chasing...that's typical for most. either is true, lean or rich, if the fuel screw has no affect then it is typically the result of having a pilot jet that is either too large (rich) or too small (lean).

Alxo insure that you have the washer, o-ring and spring installed properly on the fuel screw.

I am worried about the little O ring. I was never able to get it out. Could it be crossways in there? Or missing. Guess I will have to pull the carb off the bike to see

yes to all. you should make sure there is the washer, o-ring, and spring. all three are absolutely necessary for it to function properly. if the o-ring was missing it likely would be leaking fuel. however, it could be sideways which might limit it from being fully seated.

Not very likely cossways, but ti could have fallen out unnoticed. That happens all the time. Check it out.
