Cherry hot header on my CRF450R

by Rick Lee » Fri Aug 10, 2007 12:38 pm

04 CRF450R picked up a used full hindle stainless can and pipe :?: . I'm pretty sure it's too lean because while at idle for 5 minute the header got cherry hot(glowed orange). When i blip the throttle it stays on for a second and i get a flame out of the can. The jetting is stock what can i do with out rejetting i was supposed to go out tonight but the way it is i'll melt the darn thing. I could switch it out for the stock for tonight but i wanna use it. If you think i should just switch it out for tonight what settings and jets should i use when i reinstall. I'm about 300' feet above sea level and the engine is stock.

Sorry for the long post ~ thanks for any advice

They get red and hot, it is normal, now it may still be lean but you will have to check your plug and throttle resonse to figure that out.

If it is spitting flames there is to much fuel at some point when you go on and off the throttle.

Put the stock one back - as far as jets, did you rejet for the pipe? Did you ride it before you put the pipe on? What jets were in there when you got it? Did it run good? Did you check the plug burn?

You should start with a STOCK BIKE and learn to tune it and what not way before you start buying performance mods!

The best suggestion - Make sure you have a manual!
