CRF 230 Wont Run Without Choke

    by bullet535 » Mon Jul 09, 2007 11:15 am

Hi, I have a 2003 crf230 and the other day I went to start it and it wouldn't start without the choke. I got it running half choke, but when I tried to put the choke back in it stalled. I continued doing this for a while and then I took it around the block with the choke half on came back put the choke to off and it immediately died again. Can anyone help me? Thank you

Clogged pilot jet. Remove, clean, re-assemble.

Either that or someone has turned the idle mixture screw all the way in.

After checking/cleaning the pilot make sure screw is out about 1 3/4 turns.

It starts,it runs,it gets to where all CRFs can get to without the valve or valve plate dramas

Yea so I couldn't see light through either jet, cleaned them up real nice. I aslo took out the air fuel screw(I think) Counted the threads and put it back in the same amount of turns. Put the carb back on and it seems to be running a lot better, but I still get a little miss. Any ideas? When I took the carb apart I found a very little black 0-ring and a little washer(after it was all together), I took my best as guess at were they go, but I am not 100% sure. Any ideas on what I'm talking about? I am very new to the whole carburetor thing so bear with me. I guess being a mechanic at a new car dealer doesn't help me here!
    Thank You,

    recheck your fuel/air screw.
you should have a spring, washer, and o-ring. in that order.

check your owners manual and see exactly how many turns out the screw should be and the set the screw to that
