i was given a honda needle part#16204-men-671 and a 155 main to go with my pro circuit t4 slip on, quickshot, and smog block off kit. where do i set the needle and is the 155 going to be enough for what i have?

It should be on the 3rd clip. The 155 will probably be on the small side.
Matuchi runs that same needle on his.
Have you opened the airbox up? Changed to a high flow air filter?
I would think that if you have opened up the breathing, a 165 would be the smallest you would want to run.

I currently have that needle in my X with the clip in the 4th position. A #65 leak jet and a 165 main. Stock exhaust tip modded, backfire screen removed, and airbox opened up. This is the best it has ever run. A wheelie machine! Very clean running! I also have a JD kit that was installed, but this runs much better.

You can do the mod I refer to as a bafflectomy or remove the baffle completely.

hey are you guys just pulling the screen off the frame of the backfire screen? then using the frame with a twin air foam? or are you paying for that 100. plus filter and frame??
So far I have only done the pink wire mod...I noticed the difference...
What next?
will i notice the air box mod or do I need to wait til I do the jets??
are you using a cover over your intake to wash the bike after you hack the sides?
She is fast and gorgeous...but I want her faster

My 2 Cents worth.
I wouldn't do anything else until you do the jets. I only cut out the top of my air box and it seems to be fine. I pulled the screen of the frame and got and after market screw for the air filter. With jets, airbox and baffle either removed or modified you will have plenty of power. I would suggest doing the JD jet kit as it is complete with everything you need and great instructions.
You will love it.

My advice --gut the hell out of your airbox I removed a huge amount of mine, then start jetting... I'm running a 170 main on my 06 crf450x with a 48 pilot.. I actually think it might be slightly rich though.. seems kinda lean with the 165 though..

I just went to my dealership and they dished me the same jet/ needle setp as you 155 main, t-4 slip on and a48 pilot, they seemed pretty dead set on this being the right setup but ive yet to put it on we'll see in a couple of days...

My 2 cents again.
I would listen to the people here before I would listen to the ding dongs and my local shop.

I'm with you djh65
Everything I have done to my 06 450x was by learning from the people here @ CRFs only. Get your info from people who know what they are talking about. ~ and the others have been through pretty much everything your going to go through... Ask for help & you shall receive
Smog block off kit, Crankcase breather kit, JD Jet Kit 170 main, 48 pilot, CRFs only fuel screw, Twin Air on stock frame with the screen removed, remove the air box snorkel, drilled & installed 4 1"filtered air box vents (Cleaner than cutting up your air box), Pink Wire mod, 49t rear sprocket, Precision Concepts Suspension, complete exhaust system = nothing but fun
All recommendations in steps as I needed them and everything (Except the pipe, a family member hooked me up)was purchased from Ken @ CRFs only. Take your time and have fun with building your bike the way you want it.

I also have a JD kit that was installed, but this runs much better.
How's that ?
There are way too many guys running the JD set-up with tan plugs and completely crisp throttle response top to bottom for me to believe that's anything but imagination. The guys who run the NCVS/170/42 are very happy too, the NCVS being the only needle I know of that will allow a 42 to do the job as the pilot.
Regardless, you should put that JD kit in the For Sale section for 50% off, it'll sell in about an hour. Doug

im running the needle referred to at the top of this page (3rd position)with a 165 main, what pilot should i run with this set up, ive got the smog block kit, t-4 slip on and modded up the air box, the boneheads at the dealership gave me the wrong pilot (you guys were right!) so now id like your advice on the ideal pilot for this setup... thanks! oh yeah and ive heard mention of the aftermarket accelerator pump, is this something worth investing in also?

The 45 your bike came with should work out just fine with a JD needle ,or an NCVS with a 42 will work better than that "thing".
These set-ups are proven by , just on this site, about 50 guys and they flat work great. Doug
