    Jetting on 2006 450X

OK, I will admit that since I have never jetted a motorcycle I am a bit nervous. Tommorow the JDJet kit arrives and I am planning to install it this weekend. I also purchased a replacement fuel screw and a WB E2 exhaust.

JDJet was gracious enough to send me an email with some basic instructions. For those of you more experienced in the fine art of "jetting", how do these instructions compare with reality? Your opinions are much appreciated... :D

    1. Turn the fuel off
    2. Remove seat (2 bolts)
    3. Unbolt fuel tank and disconnect fuel line from carburetor, then remove fuel
tank, leaving the fuel petcock with the fuel tank (~6 bolts)
    4. Loosen 2 screws that hold the carb to the manifolds
    5. Tilt the carb a little to remove (2) 3mm allen head screws from the carb top, then (1) 4mm allen screw to remove the carb needle with needle nose pliers or tweesers
    6. Install the new needle and restore the carb top screws
    7. Tilt the carb more to access the drain screw on the bottom of the carb
    8. Loosen the drain screw and catch the fuel dribbling out of the hose below the bike
    9. Retighten the screw
    10. Remove the drain bolt from the bottom of the carb (17mm)
    11. Replace the main jet (8mm) and restore the drain plug
    12. Adjust the fuel screw with a small screw driver to 1 1/8 turns from seated
    13. Place the carb upright and restore everything but the seat.
    14. Use a hairdryer to heat the plastic airbox sides
    15. Use a utility knife to open the vent hole in the airbox door and cut an equivalent opening on the opposite side by removing the right sidepanel
    16. Reinstall the seat and check that everything is secure and the fuel line is connected.

    Sounds Kosher,

just a couple of fine points.

I just cut the top of my airbox instead of the sides as I wanted to keep it as watertight as possible yet still get the benefit from increased airflow.

The airfilter should be changed to a Twinair and the backfire screen removed.

there's a nice pictorial how to:
