    Jetting for 450x in Colorado

    by jervi30 » Thu Dec 30, 2010 1:06 pm

    Hello,

Here is a noob question, just joined up and am looking forward to all the info here.
I know there are a lot of topics on this, and I'm looking at purchasing the jd jetting kit for the 450x. I have not done any mods to my bike everything is stock since I just purchased it last month new. Does an after market fuel screw make a difference? Does it come with the jd jetting kit? If not which one is recommended?

    Thanks for any info!

welcome to the group! the JD kit does not come with a fuel screw. i recommend either our CRF's Only fuel screw or the R&D fuel screw we offer. these function exactly like the stock fuel screw only you can adjust them with your hand instead of needing a tool. it allows for minor adjustments to the carb's pilot circuit. adjusting the pilot circuit with the fuel screw does make a difference when there are altitude or weather changes.

here's links to both fuel screws:

    07 450r hard starting

Remeasure valves (.007 on the right, .006 on the left... Lookin good). Pulled the plug and found it soaked with gas (as expected). Swapped plugs, retightened the boot to the jug and carb... 2 kicks and she fired right up. Will have to take her for a ride and see if the good starting holds.

Still running the 42 idle jet. I assume the 45 will fatten things up (wont this make the cold starting worse ??

I installed a JD kit per the instructions. I have a 2007 CRF450R and the JD instructions for 1000ft in warm temps recommended a red needle with the clip in the 4th position and a 190 main. I am having issues at mid to full throttle. It tends hesitate and sputter. I am running a Boyesen Quickshot 2 and a Tusk fuel mixture screw.
Not sure if this is related but have the Tusk screw turned all the way in because the idle RPMs were highest. I then changed the Pilot jet from 42 to 40 but still had the same issue with idle and kept it turned all the way in. My throttle response at the low end is strong so I don't think this would affect the the mid to full throttle.
I am perplexed. Any ideas what the issue could be?
