The NCVS needle is an optional needle for the 2003 CRF450R. It's part number is 16233-MEN-671.

The needle you bought is the NCYS, it's an optional needle for the CRF 250R. It can and has been used successfully by CRF 450X owners. Matuchi has one.

The NCYS needle is leaner than the NCVS. Most guys that run the NCVS needle also run a 42 pilot.
I run that needle but mine hated the 42. I run a 48 with mine.

I'm not sure what is the right combo with the NCYS. All bikes react differently. Do some experimentation until the right combo is achieved. Or buy the JD kit as previously suggested and pay for the testing they've already done.

YEAH, IM THINKING THE JD KIT MAY HAVE BEEN THE WAY TO GO, BUT I REALLY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT TO EXPECT AS AN OUTCOME OF ALL THE CHANGES COMBINED I MADE YESTERDAY, I RAN IT PRETTY HARD UP AND DOWN A LONG STREET BUT FOR FEAR OF DESTROYING MY TIRES TOO MUCH I DIDNT RUN IT VERY LONG, THE BIKE SEEMED AWESOME, WITH WAY MORE SNAP AND WITHOUT ANY NOTICEABLY NEGATIVE ISSUES IN PERFORMANCE. I GUESS ONLY TIME WILL TELL, WHAT IS THE PILOT'S MAIN ROLE? OR BETTER YET, WHAT PART OF ACCELERATION, OR RIDING CONDITIONS WILL I BE ABLE TO NOTICE IF THE PILOT JET IS NOT THE CORRECT SIZE? ALSO IN REGARDS TO THE NEEDLE I, (THE UNTRAINED EYE) COULDNT DIFFERNTIATE ANY VISUL DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE STOCK NEEDLE AND THE NCYS, WHAT MAKES THIS NEEDLE DIFFERENT?

Oh you got me good!... my manual says "fuel is metered by the slow jet" thats real helpful aint it! it doesent exactly break it down to a specific point of acceleration where the pilot jet's main role is!

The pilot (or slow jet) controls fuel from idle to 1/4 throttle.

The needle controls fuel from 1/4 to 3/4 throttle.

The main jet controls fuel from 1/2 to WFO.

Yeah, there IS that tricky section on page 131 that spells out very specifically what each and every part on the carburetor does.
There's a reason they call it the SLOW jet  Doug

    Hey,
Nobody was trying to make you out an idiot.
You're actually pretty fortunate to get help on the issue, one of the reasons this is a great site because we do try to help everybody, every time.
Jetting though can be a P.I.A. big time.
We've got a really good jetting data base and a zillion threads that can easily be found with a search.
We post and post suggestions constantly, and a lot of times whoevers asking in their first or second post or whatever they want to argue about it, argue about things a hundred guys have tried and work great.
We're forever getting very, very common questions that are answered in owners manuals, questions that have been in motorcycle manuals forever, questions that are answered in untold previous posts, like "How much oil does my bike hold? "
You'd think there is some kind of epidemic going on where people are buying bikes and yet they aren't getting owners manuals.
So sure, we'll usually answer about anything enthusiastically, but if you start out writing all in caps and it's very, very basic information expect a little teasing, that's what these mean :
These bikes can have very expensive failures if you dive in and start changing things by just guessing. Wrong bike.
I'd be reading all I could, and be trusting people who know their way around them. Doug

understood, and i dont mind the jokes, im the type of person that likes to have a complete understanding of precisely what each thing does, and to be honest pg 131 is a little on the vague side. but i appreciate the help and the criticism none the less.
