Hey guys,

I'm putting a 52-tooth rear sprocket on my 250R and just bought a Renthal R1 120-link chain. How do I go about removing a few links? Do I just take a grinder to it to sheer the pin? I didn't think about buying a chain-breaker tool when I ordered the chain, but if there is another way to remove some links please let me know.

Thanks in advance!!
Erik

First off, make sure that you cannot move the block back enough to tighten it. Second, go get the chain breaker but be careful as to how much you cut off. I took too much off my chain once and had to buy a whole new one. That sucked!

I bought a chain breaker off Ebay for like $12. It was here in 2 days. Well worth it. You can grind the pins down but it is a pain. Good luck, Guy

Thanks for the help. I just went ahead and used a grinding wheel. Went faster than what I thought it would've. Filed it right down. Then took a punch tool and placed the chain in a vise so I could punch the pin out. No probs. Pretty simple fix with no money spent.

You can use a grinder to gring the head off and then a punch and a hammer to get the pin out.
