05 crf450x BD headlight high beam

First time poster long time creeper.

I bought a 2005 crf450x blue plated (canadian road plate) over the winter. It has a baja designs head light, the older red cowl one. It has a high beam light in the bottom corner. The light is not connected to anything it has a green and black wire running from the rubber bulb housing.

What do i use to connect this high beam ? I didnt wire the bike but got the lights working by playing around with them. But when i went to use the high beam i relized it wasent hooked up.

My electrical skills are trash so i need something straight forward to hook this high beam up to get the bike road worthy.

Anyone have any ideas ?

Thanks so much
Paul

So after looking a more at the headlight and switch on my bars, i noticed the head light is BD but the switch i dont think is. Im going to try and run a toggle for my high beam.
Thanks jim

I have replaced the bulb and the blue light comes on when i push in the hi beam, but nothing happenes.

Any insight into this would be most helpful

Thanks so much

I would check your ground , I am guessing you have power to the headlight wire when the switch is on correct ?? , if so , then it would have to be a ground issue .... That would complete the circuit ..

The head light only comes on when its running.

The "day running" light is not attached to anything its just two wires out of a bulb housing. Its in the bottom clutch side of the headlight.

I have changed the relay and bulb.

The blue light comes on when the high beam light is pushed in, but i dont hear the relay click and the brightness doesnt change.

The battery is new and charged
Im not sure where the ground is going.

I cant upload pics cause they are too big.

Any advise is appreciated im stuck lol

To upload a pic , you need a Hosting Site , like IMGUR (what I use) or something that will give you links to post on forums/websites , etc. , you upload your picture to it , and it has a choice to resize the picture for forums , and go to the picture , click on it , and it will show the picture and links to the right side , choose for Message Boards and Forums and hit Copy , then just right click (assuming you are using a PC) and Paste it into your post , or however you copy/paste on your phone , and the picture will show up make sure to use the Message Board BB CODE link I mentioned (if you use IMGUR)

As far as the ground , you can try jumping the ground from the light itself to a known ground (using a jumper wire or any wire for that matter) , just connect one end to ground (your battery ground for example) and to the headlight ground , if the light works then the issue is the ground , then you will either have to trace the original wire to find where it is broke or has become disconnected , or make a permanent ground by use of a new wire and connectors and go directly to a ground source and you should be good (provided that the issue is a ground issue)

As far as the Blue light and relay , you need to "Probe" the wires coming out of the blue light and see where they connect (Probe shown below in picture), and check at each connection till you get to the headlight itself , you are either losing power at a connection somewhere or as mentioned , you are not getting sufficient ground , it can only be the power is not reaching the headlight due to a plug in or broken wire (since you have replaced the other components) , or a ground ... that is it ...

The power should go from the blue light to the headlight (or vice versa) , either way you need to test all the wires in relation to the headlight to make sure you have power to the light , and a ground to the light , so from the switch forward there should be power (when the bike is running or however it is wired)

You should be able to find one locally , at any Auto Parts store , or Wal-Mart , that way you don't have to wait for shipping ..

It will make deciphering the issue much easier , and should lead you to the issue ... Keep us posted ... ;)

So i found a circuit tester and was going to test the ground.
I started by tracing the yellow and black wire from the harness to the relay, and found the yellow wire completely broken underneath a jumble of electrical tape.
After reconneting it it worked, i could hear the relay click and the bulb switched filoments.

Now i have to make a permanent connection

Thanks so much for the help and responses
