Crf250r kickstart abnormally tough to use

    by jawojenski » Sat May 04, 2019 4:45 pm

So I recently completed a full rebuild on my 2007 crf250r. Everything is in working order, besides the kickstart. It will bumpstart like a dream. But, Its kickstart is impossibley hard to kick. It seems like it has twice as much compression as my cousins 450. But it obviously doesnt. I can crank it by using the gear that is used to set timing with ease. Any helpful tips are welcome. What could possibly be causing my dirt bike to be so hard to kick.

Welcome to the site !! \:D/

The most likely cause is either something was not assembled correctly with the Decompressor system , or something in the Decompressor went bad ..... , If the pins or the spring are not working , stuck , broken , the compression will be really high , it basically slightly holds open a exhaust valve , when kicking the bike over and as soon as the engine fires the RPM's are high enough to disengage it and the rocker only touches the cam and not the actuator pin , if any of it is sticking then it most likely is disengaged all the time , thus making the high compression .... ;)

+1 on that, I had the same issue when I bought a second hand CRF250L, one of the pins was slightly misplaced and hampered the function of the exhaust valve. It didn't stay in place quite well, but I think that it wasn't a design issue, but a problem coming from the former owner.
