    How to start a crf70

    by moodus2006 » Thu Mar 21, 2013 8:06 am

Seems silly but I bought my son a crf 70 and just want to make sure I am doing it right. I know to switch to "on" - open the gas but then there is that black slider ... chock maybe? What position should it be in to start and then do I move it after the bike warms up? Sorry for the newbie question... bike is a gift and I haven't been able to play with it because he is always home :)

Starting some of the small bore thumpers require a bit of technique. You'll find what works best but here are some bascis:

    Switch to ON.
    Don't use the throttle.
    Cold - Full choke
Running earlier in the day - half choke.
    Running recently - no choke.

Start the bike, let idle for 10-15 seconds, turn choke off. If it starts to putter out, turn choke back on 1/2 for a second or two.

You'll figure it out. The little guys are cold-blooded sometime and require a little choke play until they warm up.

Ride when idle stabilizes and the throttle responds crisp.

Thanks "124"! I was able to find a link on another page that had an owners manual. The guy I bought it off went through it but I wanted to be sure I was doing everything right.
