How To: Tow a dirt bike

    Stuff you will need.
15 feet of 1/4 inch rope. You can find the rope in most sporting goods stores.
Minimum of 6'6" of 1inch flat webbing. Each bike will be different depending on seat height and sag.
    Duct tape or electrical tape.
    Handlebar soft ties
    Image

The 1 inch webbing goes over the seat and is tied to each foot peg. Do not leave a long tail of webbing on the left side of the bike next to the front sprocket.

1/4" rope is tied to the 1" webbing and will run down the longitudinal axis of the bike.

The duct tape will keep the rope on-top of the rear finder and out of your rear sprocket.

Run the rope back to the soft ties on the bike being towed. The rope needs to go through the loops twice and then wrap once around the throttle. If the rider being towed starts to fall have him let go of the rope (throttle) and the whole thing will unwrap.

    Hints:
*It's important to keep the rope tight between the two bikes.
*Establish a means of communication before you start towing. I suggest the tower gives a head fake over his left shoulder and then looks for a hand signal from the guy being towed. You need to head fake so the guy in the back knows you'll be looking for a hand signal soon. Look over your left shoulder because the guy being towed can't give a hand signal with his right hand.
*Don't go fast around corners because you will whip the rear bike just like a water skier behind a boat.

Ready to be stored in a finder bag.

Another way is footpeg to opposite footpeg ... tie it onto the towing bike and the towed bike stands on the rope or webbing on their foot peg ....if there is an issue lift foot and tow stops ...

Sounds weird and I was sceptical but it works well ..

Thanks a lot I ve always done 2 tie downs together. On the handlebar between the handle bar clamp to the same spot on the other bike, it works in a bind but I m going to get the stuff for this. For when I riding with my NON-honda friends

When i had my ORANGE bike i was towed with the 'opposite footpeg' method for 20 miles by my mate on his 450X. I just needed to keep well to the left of him to avoid the strap. Your method looks much safer and direct, i think i'll be putting this kit together as well, Thanks for the pics as they explain it well. ian.

Have Ken get you a couple of Moose Racing Buddy Tow kits - nice 12' strap in a compact 6"x2"x1" pouch. The pouch even has a loop for running your belt or pack strap through it. Beats hauling rope any day.
