Acerbis Fuel Tank Repair - help on howto?

    by YaRoman » Thu Oct 18, 2007 4:57 am

Has anybody experience with repairing acerbis fuel tanks? What is the best material to use?

My acerbis 6.6 Gal has two wings sticking out fairly wide from the bike, with metal supports between the wing and the frame. Since I managed to crash it into a rock some time ago, one of the supports ripped out of the wing. This did not create a leak, but I am looking for a good way to stick the support back into the tank again and fix it properly.

Some friends of mine had the same problem with their tanks, and araldite does not really seem to be giving guaranteed good results. Anybody a good idea? I would love to hear from the acerbis factory, but they are not very responsive. Any help is much appreciated as I am needing this tank on a 3500km ride in the dunes through the empty quarter in a few weeks.

    Many thanks, R

I was racing in mexico awhile back and I cracked my tank and I fixed it with jb weld and it held for about a year before I sold the bike. I think the guy is still running with the same tank. So with out seeing your tank I do know that jb weld holds on the plastic for a long time. T-Dub
